Kanji Blitz · last updated 15 October 2026

In short: Kanji Blitz has no account, no ads and no analytics or tracking tools. Your progress stays on your own device. The app only sends something to our server when you press Submit on a mnemonic idea or a bug report, and it downloads the list of published mnemonics when it starts.

1. Who is responsible

The Kanji Blitz app and this website are run by George Chalvatzis. For anything about your data, write to george.chalvatzis@gmail.com.

2. What the app stores on your device only

Your nickname, Kanji Coins, which kanji you have unlocked, your test results and streaks, achievements, difficulty and other settings, and a copy of the mnemonics (stories and pictures) you have already seen. None of this is sent to us. It is removed when you uninstall the app. The app does not ask for any permission other than internet access.

3. What the app sends to our server

WhenWhat is sentWhy
The app starts, and when you open a mnemonic pictureA request for the list of published mnemonics and, later, for a picture. Like any internet request, it carries your IP address and the kind of device software. To show the mnemonics. We do not link these requests to you or to a nickname.
You press Submit on “Suggest a mnemonic”The kanji, the text you wrote (up to 500 characters), your nickname, and the credit line “Submitted by: <nickname>” only if you ticked “Show credit on the mnemonic”.So we can review your idea. If it is chosen, it is published to every player, with the credit line if you asked for it.
You press Submit on “Report a bug”The text you wrote (up to 500 characters), your nickname, the operating system name (for example Android), the difficulty you play on and the app version. To find and fix the problem.

Please do not write personal information (your real name, email, phone number) in a mnemonic idea or a bug report, and do not use your real name as a nickname. A nickname you choose to credit becomes public with your story.

To stop spam, the server counts how many ideas or reports come from one internet address in an hour. That count is kept in the server’s memory only and is forgotten when the server restarts. Our web server also keeps ordinary technical access logs, which are rotated regularly and used only to keep the service running and secure.

When an idea or a report arrives, a private notification is sent to the developer’s phone through a notification service we run ourselves. It contains the same nickname and text you submitted.

4. Why we may use it (legal basis)

For ideas and bug reports: you sent them to us on purpose, and we use them for the purpose you sent them for. For the technical requests and server logs: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working service. We do not use your data for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell it.

5. Who else sees it

Nobody outside the project, except the companies that provide the technology: the hosting provider that runs our server, and Google, which distributes the app through Google Play and processes your installation under its own privacy policy. No third-party advertising, analytics or crash-reporting tools are built into the app.

6. How long we keep it

Ideas and bug reports are kept until we have dealt with them and for as long as they are useful for improving the app. A published mnemonic stays in the game as long as it is part of it. You can ask us to delete or change something you sent at any time.

7. Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Because we do not know who you are beyond the nickname you chose, tell us that nickname and what you sent. If you live in the European Union you can also complain to your national data protection authority (in Greece: the Hellenic Data Protection Authority, dpa.gr).

8. Children

Kanji Blitz is a study game for learners of Japanese and is not aimed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has sent us personal information, tell us and we will remove it.

9. Security

The app talks to our server over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. No system is perfectly secure, so we ask you not to send anything sensitive.

10. Changes

If we change what the app does with data, we will update this page and its date. The current version is always at kanjiblitz.com/privacy.html.
